About this deal

Any student wanting a concise and accurate overview of pharmacology could do no better than start with this book. The author discusses the mechanisms of action of each drug, indicating the therapeutics of choice for specific conditions. Kinase‐linked receptors are surface receptors that possess (usually) intrinsic tyrosine kinase activity. The "At a Glance" series has expanded rapidly over the last few years, and this book remains the best of the lot. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.

However, most drugs produce their effects by acting on specific protein molecules, usually located in the cell membrane.Covering a wide range of topics, books in the at a Glance series are ideal as introductory texts for teaching, learning and revision, and are useful throughout university and beyond. Key principles are supported by coloured schematic diagrams - invaluable as both an introduction to medical pharmacology, and revision in the run-up to pharmacology exams. For example, acetylcholine is a transmitter substance released from motor nerve endings; it activates receptors in skeletal muscle, initiating a sequence of events that results in contraction of the muscle. Each bite-sized chapter is covered in a double-page spread with clear, easy-to-follow diagrams, supported by succinct explanatory text.

I would recommend this book for medical students, science students and scientists who require a succinct account of pharmacology. Most of our PDFs are also available to download and we're working on making the final remaining ones downloadable now. Following on from the success of the previous three editions, Professor Michael Neal, one of the great teachers of medical pharmacology, has extensively revised and updated the fourth editon to take account of the rapid developments in the field. There's also a list of adverse drug reactions, an abbreviations reminder and some useful case studies. Local hormones (autacoids), such as histamine, serotonin (5‐hydroxytryptamine, 5HT), kinins and prostaglandins, are released in pathological processes.Following its release, the transmitter is inactivated (left of the figure) by either enzymic degradation (e. Prof Neal has updated and republished this fantastic, all you need to know for exams and exactly what you want to know to survive, clinical medicine book!

Each subject is covered over two-pages, with visuals and information on one page and drugs on the other. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. Clear and accessible chapters organised around common diseases and conditions facilitate efficient clinical learning, and include references to drug classes and side effects, disease pathophysiology, prescribing guidelines, and more. The market-leading at a Glance series is popular among healthcare students, and newly qualified practitioners for its concise, simple approach and excellent illustrations.Hormones are chemicals released into the bloodstream; they produce their physiological effects on tissues possessing the necessary specific hormone receptors. As more of a visual memory gal, the clear comprehensive diagrams often appear to me through the haze that descends during ward rounds and exams when all seems lost. It′s a well–rounded book with good explanations of how drugs produce their effects and an outline of their uses. The effects of histamine can sometimes be blocked with antihistamines ( Chapter 11), and drugs that block prostaglandin synthesis (e.
